At the present time the main technique to treat hernias especially in patients with increased risk of relapse is tension-free hernioplasty using prosthetic materials. The authors have studied the strength characteristics of «Cardioplant» xenopericardium and its interaction with the tissues of rat’s abdominal wall in the experiment. Consequently a method for prosthetic hernioplasty of ventral hernias using xenopericardium has been developed. 28 patients with ventral hernias were operated. No complications of xenopericardium plasty have been revealed.
